Lomax, John
(23 sep.1867, Goodman, Missisipi, EE.UU.–26 ene.1948, Greenville, Miss.).

Etnomusicólogo estadounidense. Estudió en la Universidad de Harvard y poco tiempo después comenzó a publicar colecciones de canciones vaqueras. En la década de 1930 él y su hijo adolescente Alan (n. 1915–m. 2002) coleccionaron canciones folclóricas del sudoeste y del este de EE.UU. Jelly Roll Morton, Leadbelly y Muddy Waters fueron tal vez los más significativos entre sus varios descubrimientos importantes; el archivo de los Lomax con interpretaciones y narraciones de Morton fueron de una particular importancia. Ambos hombres realizaron una destacada labor en el Archivo de música folclórica de la Biblioteca del Congreso de EE.UU. Sus varios libros y antologías estimularon el renacimiento de la música folclórica en las décadas de 1950 y 1960.
